A new layer of shingles installed over sound decking and an existing layer, when the roof qualifies for it.
The work
A reroof only makes sense when the decking underneath is solid and the roof does not already have too many layers on it. Before we quote a reroof, we check both of those things, because putting new shingles over bad decking or over a roof that has taken on moisture underneath just hides the real problem instead of fixing it.
If the roof qualifies, the old ridge caps and any loose or damaged material come off first, then new flashing goes in anywhere the existing flashing has failed. The new shingle layer gets nailed down over the sound existing layer, and ridge vents and edges get tied in so the roof still breathes properly.
We will not sell a reroof on a roof that should really be torn off. If the decking is soft, if there is already more than one layer up there, or if we find trapped moisture during the check, we tell you that up front and explain why a full replacement is the right call instead.

Step by step, no surprises.
- Check eligibility We check decking condition and how many layers are already on the roof before agreeing to a reroof.
- Prep surface Loose material and old ridge caps come off so the new layer has a clean base.
- Flash and vent Failed flashing is replaced and ventilation is checked before the new layer goes down.
- Install new layer New shingles are nailed over the existing sound layer according to manufacturer specs.
- Final check We walk the finished roof and confirm ventilation and flashing are working as they should.
